Project: EQUIP-T Tanzania -  Baseline Project

The primary education system in Tanzania currently includes English as a subject. However in secondary schools, English becomes the medium of instruction. For the last 20 years the Baseline course book has been used as a 6 week bridging course for students to study before they pass into secondary level education. The outputs for this project were:

  • to upgrade, modernise and redesign of the 6 week Baseline course, working in conjunction with the local writing team.
  • to train, support and mentor the local writing team during the rewriting and editing process of the new Baseline course.
  • to train a sample group of  Baseline teachers in new methodology and layout of the course during trialing and piloting period.

The outstanding feature of this project was to successfully bring to fruition the first draft of the new course book and to deliver the initial teacher training, given the considerable logistical challenges which prevailed in-country.
