Project: A  two  tier  teacher  training  programme  entitled Cycle  2 Teacher  Professional Development

and  Training. The  remit  was  to produce  a  programme  that  comprised  8  modules  over  5 X 60  hours,

plus a detailed scheme of work for the first module – together with formative  and  summative  assessment

tools. The  programme  was aimed at native Arabic teachers who needed to upskill their English language ability

and knowledge of EFL pedagogy in order to deliver teaching in mathematics, science and English in the English

medium (which they had previously delivered in the Arabic medium). As the arget teachers were coming into

the programme at CEFR levels A1 and  A2,  the  initial  modules  concentrated  on  their  own

language development,  but employed  EFL  pedagogy  (methodology and approaches).  Later in the

programme methodology and approaches would be overtly addressed with reference to what they had

been experiencing themselves in the classroom.
