Project: Teacher Capacity Building Project

This is an ongoing project, which consists of several phases:

Phase 1 - 2013 October to December

  • The design and delivery of training to approximately 60 master trainers to support them in content writing the AO-A1 level of the British Council EfT (English for Teachers) 1 course. To be cascaded to approximately 500 in-service primary teachers. This is a unique way of using the EfT A0-A1 framework which ELT-Consultants pioneered.
  • The design and delivery of two modules of the British Council CiPELT (Certificate in Primary English Language Teaching) as part of the orientation for the primary trainer training.
  • The remote mentoring and editing of the local teams of writers in the production of a tailor-made EfT AO-A1 level for Venezuela.
  • The DiPELT (Diploma in Primary English Language Teaching) is a combination of a methodology programme (CiPELT) and language improvement Eft A0-A1 programme.

Phase 2 - 2014 May/June

  • The impact monitoring visit of the delivery of the DiPELT course (EfT A0-A1 & CiPELT) by master trainers across 12 provinces.
  • The writing of interim and final progress reports.

Phase 3 - 2015

  • The design and delivery of training to 12 DISELT (Diploma in Secondary English Language Teaching) master trainers. To be cascaded.

Phase 4 - 2015 February

  • The design and delivery of training to 88 secondary master trainers, with the direct support of the MoE (Ministry of Education). The training consisted of looping the British Council online Pathways (version with Spanish instructions) A1-B1 language development programme for teachers of English together with the newly designed MoE English for secondary students coursebooks together, in order that trainers could deliver tailor-made face-to-face tutorials to the teachers. To be cascaded.

The outstanding feature of this project has been the flexibility to work successfully within the constraints of a country, which is currently undergoing political turmoil and uncertainty. In addition, to elicit the direct interest and support of the MoE in the training of English teachers.
